Lancashire Facts

Lancaster Castle has been a prison since at least 1196 and is now partly open to the public. The notorious Pendle Witches trial took place here and the castle survived an attack by Robert Bruce and more than one royalist attack during the English civil war. Lancaster Castle is currently owned by Queen Elizabeth II.

From North South West Leave the M6 at Junction 31 following signs for Blackburn A59. Continue along the A59. At traffic lights petrol station on right continue straight A677. After 4 5 minutes you will pass the Windmill public house on left. Take the next road on the right Further Lane. The driveway to Stanley House is the first left on this road.From the East Leave M62 M60 at Junction 15 M61 north . At the end of the M61 follow the road onto the M6 northbound. Leave M6 at Junction 31. See directions from the North
