Lancaster Castle has been a prison since at least 1196 and is now partly open to the public. The notorious Pendle Witches trial took place here and the castle survived an attack by Robert Bruce and more than one royalist attack during the English civil war. Directions:

Take the M55 to Junction 32 exit sign posted to North Shore. Make your way to the Promenade and travel north past the Tower for approximately 1.5 miles. As you travel along Queens Promenade you will pass the Gynn roundabout. After the roundabout take the 4th turning on the right sea to left for Empress Drive continue to '18 20' The Arosa Hotel.
